Prenatal care is preventive healthcare aimed at providing regular checkups to treat and prevent potential health problems during pregnancy. As a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist, Dr. Gail Miller also promotes healthy lifestyles that benefit you and your developing baby. You will also be able to discuss whether you can deliver normally or will require a C-section.
Your first prenatal visit should occur about eight weeks after your last menstrual period. If you have not yet seen an obstetrician, you should schedule your first prenatal visit as soon as you know you are pregnant. You should know that mothers who do not get prenatal care are three times more likely to have low-birth-weight babies and their babies are five times more likely to die than those born to mothers who receive regular prenatal care.
Dr. Miller can spot health problems early when she sees mothers regularly. Early treatment can cure many problems, such as preeclampsia and gestational diabetes, while preventing others, like miscarriage.
